Xstrata Coal renames Anvil Hill Project to Mangoola Coal (PDF)

Sydney, 7 May 2008

Xstrata Coal today confirmed it has changed the name of the Anvil Hill project to Mangoola Coal. Mangoola Coal is owned by Xstrata Mangoola Pty Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Xstrata Coal Pty Limited.

Mick Buffier, Xstrata Coal Chief Operating Officer NSW, said the name Mangoola Coal was chosen to replace the project’s previous name, Anvil Hill, due to its connection to the local area and the fact Xstrata Coal will not mine Anvil Hill itself.

“Continued use of the Anvil Hill name would only serve to mislead the community regarding which areas would be affected by mining.

“Mangoola is an indigenous word relevant to the area and our proposed open cut operation will be located along Mangoola Road. It made sense to change the name and avoid any further confusion among stakeholders,” said Mr Buffier.

Mangoola Coal is an approved open cut coal mine located about 20 kilometres west of Muswellbrook and about 10 kilometres north of Denman.

Mangoola Coal is expected to produce up to 10.5M tonnes of run of mine (ROM) thermal coal per year, with a mine life of approximately 21 years.
