Company announcement: Glencore International disclosable interest

Xstrata plc ("Xstrata") announces that it was notified on 8 January 2007 by Glencore International AG (“Glencore”), Finges Investment BV and Hanmer BV (both of which are wholly owned subsidiaries of Glencore) pursuant to section 202(4)(b) of the Companies Act 1985 that, with reference to the particulars contained in Glencore’s notification dated 21 December 2006, 151,560,600 issued ordinary shares of US$0.50 each (the “Shares”) in the capital of Xstrata, registered at the time of that notification in the name of Credit Suisse, are now registered in the name of HSBC Bank plc.
The Glencore Group owns 336,801,333 Shares, representing 35.71% of the issued ordinary share capital of Xstrata.
As of 10 January 2007, 943,150,383 Shares are in issue.
