Description of Operation
The Kidd Creek copper-zinc-silver deposit is located in Timmins, Ontario. The Kidd Mine and Metallurgical sites produce copper, zinc, indium, cadmium, silver and sulphuric acid.
The operations are organised into two independent business units, Kidd Mining and Kidd Metallurgical sites.
Kidd Mining is focused on developing and sustaining economic mining plans, while Kidd Metallurgical concentrates on further establishing itself as a custom-feed processing facility. Kidd Mining mines the ore body at Kidd Creek through three separate shafts known as the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 Shafts.
Kidd Metallurgical facilities are located 27 kilometres southeast of the mine site and consist of a concentrator, a copper smelter and refinery, as well as zinc, cadmium, indium, liquid sulphur dioxide, and sulphuric acid plants. The copper refinery and zinc casting plants are ISO 9001 quality certified.
Brief History of the Operation
Xstrata Copper and its predecessors have been mining the Kidd Creek copper/zinc deposits since 1966.
