How we’re doing
We are committed to giving our stakeholders a clear and transparent picture of our performance, including challenges as well as successes.
We publish information about our approach to sustainability issues and our performance on this website and in our annual sustainability reports. We focus on the issues that might affect the long-term success of our business or the sustainability of the economies, environments and communities in which we operate.
Continuous improvement is integral to our business approach. We set sustainable development targets annually and monitor our progress against them. Each year, we publish a scorecard that shows our performance against the year’s targets and we report on our targets for the year ahead.
We collect sustainability data on:
- economic indicators
- production indicators
- environment indicators
- health and safety
- employees
Over time, our data collection system is improving, which makes our data more accurate. Where we can, we report on data trends over time, but this is not always possible.
For the last five years of our 10-year history, Xstrata plc has been named Mining Sector leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. In 2010, PriceWaterhouseCoopers awarded us their 2010 Building Public Trust Award for Sustainability Reporting in the FTSE 100.
