We are a diverse organisation working in a variety of regions around the world. Our belief is that a diverse workforce enables us to operate more effectively in a variety of contexts. Whether it is business planning, technical design or safety management, the decision-making process is most often enhanced by the existence of a wide range of different perspectives, coming from people with a variety of backgrounds.

Board diversity

At Xstrata, we are pro-active in encouraging diversity throughout our workforce. Our policy is to appoint the best candidates available based on merit and to consider a broad and diverse range of candidates for Board vacancies. We recognise the importance of maintaining a Board with the right mix of skills, experience and diverse viewpoints and our Nominations Committee has initiated a process to identify appropriately qualified female candidates for consideration when Board vacancies occur. Women continue to be under-represented in the mining industry, particularly at the most senior levels. Across our business, we participate in a number of initiatives to encourage women to join Xstrata and the mining industry. We are committed to supporting women and other under-represented groups to reach their full potential at Xstrata, through a combination of mentoring, leadership development programmes and supportive working practices and policies.
