An integrated approach
Providing a healthy, motivating workplace is a core objective and an intrinsic value of our company culture and of the way we do business and our commitment to it is expressed in our Business Principles and SD Policy. Our target is to operate with no new cases of occupational illnesses and to help improve and maintain the wellbeing of our employees and contractors. Our operations are often located in or near communities where healthcare provision is limited or only at the early stages of development. We work in concert with local authorities and other stakeholders such as NGOs to help address and overcome some of these public health challenges such as HIV/AIDs, malaria and tuberculosis.
Most often when we support the wider health needs of a community, we work with local government authorities and the relevant NGOs. At some of our locations, HIV/AIDs, malaria and tuberculosis are major public health challenges and the local authorities do not always have the resources to cope with the scale of the need, without external support. As the biggest employer in many of the localities in which we operate, providing support is not only the right thing to do, it makes good business sense.
